Artist statement

My works are an ongoing development of ironic, autobiographical, and playful narratives that I apply to ceramics, sculpture, and digital works. The subject matter varies according to which mini-universe I work with such as toast world, and grunge experimentation. Toast world includes buttered and burnt toast, toast-bats, and the "toastasauraus."

On ceramic vessels, I place some subjects in animate situations with the potential to spice up dull moments or to spark laughter and conversations. My imagery could be considered cartoony which aids the narratives in being approachable, relatable, and humorous.

I find joy in overmanipulating and re-contextualizing specific images/objects and details throughout different mediums. I repeat small details like the stitched line, dots, and toast.

Toast-Bat
The “toast-bat” has invaded all mediums that I work in. I am in constant flux with ideas they interpose. The toast-bat is both salty and sweet, sometimes mischievous but usually an insightful being.

Toastasauraus
A toast head is incorporated onto a randomly drawn dinosaur body in a comical way. Sometimes the “sauraus” is moody and likes to fight with its surrounding environment, and sometimes its starving for attention waiting for a companion.
